Memories of Adventures in Barbados.

This is an entertaining tale of a wild and crazy person who had a terrific spirit of adventure and a ridiculous capacity of fun.  With his parents, Les and Muriel, Rex Wotton managed the West Coast Watersports center at Coral Reef hotel. It was just a short walk from Settlers Beach. The shop took hotel guest diving and on sailing tours around the coast. He was an expert seaman trained by the Royal Merchant Navy in all matters of ship navigation, sailing, diving, explosives, and marine work. Rex Wotton was just one of the most unforgettable Rogues in Paradise. His sense of fun and sharp wit surrounded every scenario. Sailing to St. Vincent with a friend at age 11 shows his sense of adventure. He encouraged all to join him in pranks and daredevil acts, making it seem safe, easy, and a joy. Often reckless, he took extreme but calculated risks.

Rex was independent at an early age he often disapeared for days at a time to camp around the banks of Joes' river, catching shellfish to eat. He built fires from coconut chaff and twigs and barbecued his catch with breadfruit, wild okras, plantain, and edible vines. He ate mangoes, and local berries like fat pork, and sea grapes, that grew near the seashore.
